              Friday 27th January, Arthritis Ireland (Niamh Murphy) gave a very interesting talk to a full house. The talk was very informative and concentrated on the age profile of sufferers, how it can be eased and diet and excercise. You can get more information on clicking on the link above. Niamh talked about the importance of an excercise programme and joining a regular event in order to build up fitness levels to help with the pain management

Put a Spring in your Step: GARA will be participating in the exhibition of community activities in Shoreline on the 1st February between 11am & 5pm.

  • The exhibition will feature 5 main strands:  
    Services to the community – from further education to information on rights and entitlements.
    Sports and Recreation – from football clubs to bridge clubs.
    Arts and Crafts – from drama groups to church choirs.
    Environmental Initiatives – from community gardens to protecting our heritage.
    Volunteering Opportunities – from making tea to providing strategic advice.

On 18th October members of Howth ARA visited Greystones and got a tour from Cllr Derek Mitchell and were very impressed with the facilities in the town. They later met with GARA members in the Burnaby for an exchange of views. Howth have approx 50 members and were keen to expand the group over the next few years

 Activities of GARA

 
 

Greystones Active Retirement Association is open to all people, aged 50 years and over living in the Greystones, Co Wicklow area. GARA aims to offer opportunities for retired people to engage in a range of activities- including cultural pursuits, learning programmes, sporting activities and interesting outings and holidays,  both at home and abroad 

Printed newsletters  are also circulated to all members but we hope that the website will also be used to enhance and publicise our activities into the future. Our current membership stands at approx 300 making it the largest ARA in Wicklow.
